OK. So what’s “Marketing for all Five Senses”?
When I started thinking about my business plan I talked to a range of people including potential clients, people I call upon as mentors, fellow trade partners and of course, family. The one thing that kept cropping up was that when it came to marketing they all preferred to communicate in different ways. While some liked digital media (email, video, podcasts), others preferred more traditional forms like printed media and speaking on the phone.
I’d consider myself to be quite a traditional individual. I prefer face-to-face, the personal touch, if you like. I like the feel of a good book or a newspaper in front of me when I have my breakfast, you could say I like the tactility of such things. All that said, I LOVE technology. I love the speed at which you can communicate online. I love the fact that anyone can be an author (and a publisher), or a director, perhaps even appear in their own movie and share it with those they know (or don’t).
The point is we don’t communicate in one sense but any combination of all five.
Sight, touch, sound, taste and smell (the five main senses, a classification attributed to Aristotle) is an incredibly sophisticated combination of experiences.
BANG!
There’s the key!
EXPERIENCES!
We experience. We don’t just see, or hear, or feel, or taste or smell. WE EXPERIENCE!
So, keep this top of mind…
Whether you have a new brochure, website, trade stand, customer service department, mailshot, e-blast, annual report, newsletter, corporate video or podcast, leaflet, poster, invitation, product launch, press conference or news story to shout about MAKE IT AN EXPERIENCE!
Creating a new brand? Or relaunching an existing one?
WOW! (it’s your duty!)
Formulating a new communications strategy? Sounds dull…
Make it MEMORABLE!
Expanding your network of contacts on line or face-to-face?

You’ll stand out…
….be remembered…
…and people will talk about you.
